NCrowd Magazine allowed Walker Art Studios to be a designer for their fashion show. This project’s theme is dedicated to issues in the black community, please read each description to gain more insight of these powerful pieces of art!

“Don’t React” is a piece that represents oppression faced by African Americans. Specifically, police brutality, we are forced to not react in hostile situations. This is displayed through his lips being sewn shut and the ears covered with bandaids. The ears bleed for the listed police brutality victims.


“Inner Bloom” is a piece that represents the importance of mental health and how pouring into yourself allows you to bloom.


“C.R.O.W.N Act” is a piece that represents the law passed to prohibit discrimination in the workplace based on hair texture or style. C.R.O.W.N stands for “Create a Respectful and Open World for Natural hair.”


“The Burdened Scale” is a piece created to represent the systematic racism against black women and how it is in favor of white men. As they are on a balanced scale, notice how the woman’s ropes are longer, keeping her below but still balanced.


“The Standard” is a piece that displays the standards for African American men and how it is a common struggle to exceed those expectations. Including but not limited to being a leader, protector, and provider.


False Hope is a piece, created by Brandy Walker, to represent a film called “Naked” (created by Brenda Walker) which displays colorism, codependency, competition, and body image issues in the black community.
